Dulce's Story

November is National Adopt a Senior Pet Month. Adopting a senior pet can bring about apprehensions and doubt. When presented with this opportunity, the easy decision might be no. Not only might they have special needs, but they might also have even more limited time with us compared to a much younger pet. Recently, one of our CVF team members was presented with this exact opportunity...to adopt a senior pet who came with some health issues.
The dog: a 12 1/2 year old chihuahua by the name of Dulce whose owner, unfortunately, could no longer care for her due to serious health issues of her own. While already familiar with the sweet personality and gentle demeanor of this dog, it was momentarily still a somewhat difficult decision. Thoughts of an uncertain health care plan, the possibility of limited time causing a premature broken heart, and changing the vibe of the established pack of pets already at home swirled around and around in her mind. Who else would have the genuine heart, be attentive to the specific needs, and even have the desire to adopt this innocent girl? All along, her soon-to-be owner’s heart was nudging her in the direction of yes, but much consideration was taken due to the concerns, but then it happened; it eventually became official, and Dulce was added to the pack.

The day came to pick up Dulce from her previous owner’s home, and the plan was to do a trial weekend to make sure it was a good fit. As mentioned, Dulce and her soon-to-be new owner had become acquainted in the past, so the second the two were reunited, the love for one another was immediately reignited. During the drive home, though, apprehension still tried to creep up regarding how the introduction to the dog pack at home would go. This would be the telltale moment. As Dulce curiously entered through the front door, her new pack members greeted her in unison and happily escorted her throughout her new home as if they’d known each other all along. It was truly beautiful to see this moment unfold, and needless to say, Dulce’s trial weekend quickly turned into a permanent position.

One issue, however, that was quickly discovered through home cameras was that Dulce had extreme separation anxiety as she would intensely howl and incessantly pace and pant throughout the entire house if left alone for any length of time. With a preference for natural alternatives, our CVF employee decided to try our CBD Pet Tincture to calm Dulce during these moments. The results were undeniable; Dulce could now calmly relax on the couch or move around the house at her leisure in a peaceful, collected manner while avoiding any type of sedating effects often seen in commonly prescribed anti-anxiety medications. She was now comfortable when her owners left, naturally.

Despite Dulce’s medical charts, this sweet, little lady is FULL of life, energy, love, and happiness. Looks like the initial nudge from her new owner’s heart was the nudge in the right direction after all.

Although not needed in this situation, adding a new pet to the family can cause stress in the other pack members. Our CBD Pet Tincture works great to keep all pets calm and comfortable with changes like this along with many other stressful situations.

Advice from our CVF team member about adopting a senior pet: Adopting this senior pet has provided pure fulfillment for the heart as the days overflow with love and happiness due to this beautiful, innocent, perfect soul. Look into their eyes, see the beauty, see the life, take the chance despite any advice otherwise - even if it’s your own doubts. If you are physically and financially able to care for them, the love you’ll get in return from fulfilling the need of a senior pet who might have otherwise been written off is worth every second no matter how many there are.
