Farm Update: We’re fighting weeds with fire! Did you know that along with hemp, we also farm corn, soybeans, wheat, alfalfa, and hay? Recently, we tried a new weed control method in our cornfields; it’s referred to as “weed flaming”.

WHAT IT IS

Weed Flaming is an organic weed control method.

HOW IT WORKS

It uses propane-fueled flamers to apply intense heat to unwanted weeds. The goal is to disrupt the cellular structure of the weeds, causing them to wither and die. The precise targeting of the flamers avoids the top of the corn crop without causing harm to them.

 BENEFITS

Since no chemicals are used, this method allows us to stay compliant with our organic farming certification. It eliminates the need for herbicides, reducing chemical runoff and soil contamination. Additionally, propane is a clean-burning fuel, resulting in lower emissions compared to other fossil fuels.

With this sustainable method, we’re keeping our fields healthy and our crops thriving—naturally!
